Shear rams are designed to cut through drill pipe completely, also known as “shearing the pipe”, without sealing off the well completely. Variable Bore Rams, Inc. carries casing shear rams from HMH (Hydril) to accommodate a larger drill pipe size of 18 inches, with a working pressure of 15M.
